If you've been following the Reality Fracture spoiler season, you've probably already seen Samut doing the rounds online — and for good reason. This double-faced card is one of the standout reveals, and we think it's worth breaking down why.
Side A: Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun comes in at 1U (one generic, one blue) as a 2/1 Legendary Human Wizard. Her ability is clean and powerful — instant and sorcery spells you control have split second. That's a serious tempo play, effectively locking your opponent out of responses during your spell chain. Blue tempo players are going to love this.
Side B: Samut, Hazoret's Champion flips into a 2/2 Legendary Human Warrior Cleric at 1R (one generic, one red), giving all your creatures haste. Simple, aggressive, and exactly what red wants. Whether you're pushing through for lethal or capitalising on a fresh board state, this side does serious work.
The flavour text ties it together beautifully — "Sometimes the answer is to keep moving — the sunrise at your back, the perilous expanse before you." Very on-brand for Samut's lore.
⚡ Why You Need to Be Excited Right Now
Let's be real — double-faced legendaries that swing between two completely different colour identities don't come around every set. Samut is the kind of card that shows up in spoiler season and immediately has the community theorycrafting. A split-second lock on one side, and a haste anthem on the other? That's not just Commander bait — that's competitive potential.
Think about what this means in constructed: you're playing a low-cost legendary that adapts to your gameplan. Going reactive? Flip her blue and shut down your opponent's responses. Going wide and aggressive? Red side, full haste, push for the win. The flexibility alone makes her worth watching.
And for Commander players — an Izzet (blue/red) legendary with this kind of utility is going to find a home in a lot of 99s, if not leading the deck entirely.
