At MagicCon: Amsterdam, Wizards of the Coast pulled back the curtain on every Magic Multiverse set coming in 2027 — and kicking things off is something fans have wanted for a long time: an MTG set set entirely beneath the waves. Nauctis: The Sunken Realm releases February 5th, 2027, and if the early details are anything to go by, it's shaping up to be one of the most exciting original plane releases in years.
Release Date & Prerelease
Mark your calendars — Nauctis hits shelves on February 5th, 2027, with prerelease events (when the set becomes Standard-legal) expected the week prior on January 29th, 2027. Spoiler season timing is still up in the air, but keep an eye on MagicCon: Atlanta (November 13–15) — that's the most likely window for the First Look and early card reveals.
What We Know About the Set
Don't let the underwater setting fool you into thinking this is an all-blue set. Wizards has already confirmed impressive variety — deep-sea divers, volcanic regions, and unknown horrors lurking in the depths. Creature type fans will be thrilled to hear Homarids are back, and Shark-folk are making their debut.
The most exciting mechanical tease? Flying won't appear in this set — a first for Magic. Instead, Nauctis will introduce a brand-new mechanic to replace it, details of which are still under wraps.
Why We're Excited at Knightly Gaming
After a packed 2026 of Universes Beyond crossovers, Nauctis feels like a return to form — a rich, original world with genuine mechanical ambition. This is the kind of set that brings lapsed players back to the table and gives the MTG faithful something to rally behind.
We'll be stocking Nauctis: The Sunken Realm and will have pre-orders available closer to the release. Watch this space as spoiler season approaches — we'll be covering every reveal.
In the meantime, we've still got plenty to keep you busy until the depths call — check out our Pre-Order Collection including Reality Fracture and the Star Trek set.
